How is Your Memory?

Tuesday 5.09.17

Major Ruth took our meeting today, and she asked us if we had any funny memories to share, one or two of the ladies shared with us, and there was fun and laughter at the things they remembered. Major then gave us all a word search to do, the main theme of which was memories, i.e., Queens Coronation, marriage, etc. She talked about how our memory isn’t always good, and how we forget things especially as we get older. Even basic things, simple things, like locking the door, switching off lights. She then handed us all an envelope with reminders written on it, and as we opened them there were 6 objects in with a sheet of paper explaining what each object was to remind you off, and a scripture verse to go with it.

This was to remind us to stick with it, and to remember that we can accomplish His will because it is God who gives us the strength to do so.

To remind us that He is our light and we are to share His light with others.

To remind us to pick out the good qualities in others.

To remind us to be there for those who are hurting. And to do all we can to help ease their pain be it spiritual, emotional or physical.

All Different

I took some plastic bottles to the Home League, all different shapes and sizes and took the labels off and the lids. I then challenged the ladies as to what had been in the bottles and if they could find the right top for the right bottle. They did quite well, although there were a few guesses before they got the right one. Each bottle had its own unique liquid in that had its own unique use. You wouldn't find bleach in the sauce bottle!!

Many times, we look at other people and wish we could do what they are doing, they seem so talented, or confident but we must realise that God has made us all different, and He has given to each of us a unique gift, or talent, and everything that is used for His service is not useless. All that we do in His service is done for His glory and honour, not our own, and nothing is too small or menial when it is done for Him. Rather than looking at others and wishing we could do what they do, we should thank God that we can be of service to Him, no matter how small it seems. A phone call to someone on their own means such a lot to the person, though it may not seem much to us.

There is no age limit on serving the Lord, we can serve Him right to the end. It has nothing to do with age, intellect, theology etc. It has to do with loving and serving the One who first loved us and saved us by His grace. The following week the ladies brought varies things that had encouraged them in the week, Bible verses, poetry, and stories. From Darkness to Light part 1

The Home League Weekend

The home League weekend was wonderful, everyone who participated and who came to support us were greatly uplifted as we came together to bring our adoration and worship to God who has brought us out of darkness into His wonderful light.

Betty had written a poem of invitation to all:

An Invitation

Tuesday is our home league day,

A very friendly group I'd say.

We have a chat, a laugh, a sing,

Lot's of good memories we bring.

A biscuit and a nice cup of of tea

Goes down a treat, for you and me.

Sometimes we have a quiz or two,

That's brain food for me and you,

Keeps us on our toes

Gosh, how quick the time goes.

Songs and prayer reminds of were we are,

In God's house and in His care.

Then we say "Goodbye dear friends",

Until next week we meet again.

Our door is always open so we say

"Come and join us here on Tuesdays".

Which was followed by a rousing chorus of This Little Light of mine in which everyone joined in, everyone was up on their feet singing with hearts united in love and adoration to God.

After all that wonderful spiritual food we also had nourishment for our bodies!
