Envoy Kevin Wibberley spoke today (February 11 2014) at the Home and Families meeting Ripley Salvation Army. He asked us to take time to think about time and how we spend it, are we always in a hurry, do we leave those important jobs so that they are not just no longer important but urgent too. It is far better to give yourself time for those important things, time to prepare and do things properly; hurried jobs don’t always turn out well. As Christians the most important time is spent with God, reading His word and talking to Him in prayer and this is certainly no help to us if rushed. I mused on this for a while and thought how often we hurt one another because we don’t have time to spend with each other because there is always something to do, there is a wonderful saying “people are more important than things”, I guess when it comes to time we must get our priorities right, God first, others next and self last. Even so time spent with the Father surely makes us feel better and our day much easier to bear.
As always with this lovely fellowship there is always time for song and for laughter and today was no exemption, Kevin asked us to think of sayings etc. to do with time, such as a stitch in time saves nine and of course Bible references to do with time, Kevin read:
1To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time for every purpose under heaven:
2 A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
3 A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
4 A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
7 A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
8 A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
3 A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
4 A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
7 A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
8 A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.
Kevin also reminded us that after time is done eternity will be and challenged us to think about where we will spend eternity. My mother used to say “There is no time like the present” and if you do not know where you will spend eternity then you need to seek the God of the Bible for it is only through His Son, Jesus that we can have eternal life. God forgives our sins through Jesus who took our punishment and if we repent and follow Jesus then we will be received in heaven and spend eternity with God.
1 Timothy 2: 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Don’t waste another moment of time but ask God for forgiveness and walk in newness of life.
2 Corinthians 6:2 2 For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.”Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
