Spiritual Lessons from Everyday Objects

I had asked the ladies last week to bring something with them this week that had helped them with some kind of spiritual lesson, most brought something but I want to tell you about just two. Betty brought a spoon that Lorraine (who had been our timbrel leader) bought each of the timbrel members. It reminded her of Lorraine and her selfish devotion to her brothers and sister in Christ, and also to the lost. This has reminded one of our ladies reminded of the tale of the people who ate from long spoons, the difference between the selfish, greedy power driven people and those who think of others. (This is adapted from the original story, The parable of the long spoons) imagine two villages one long gone all the inhabitants had starved to death, the other thriving on love and devotion to one another and caring for each other who had one thing in common, they all had sat around a communal pot of food with long spoons. The people of the selfish village tried hard to feed themselves but they never managed to get the spoon to their mouths and it was not long before they had all died. The other village sat around a communal pot with long spoons and they soon learned to fed one another and so they grew strong. Lorraine was a child of God who put others first, was willing to use her spoon to fed others and those of us who were privileged to know her will always remember her selfless acts of love and service to the Lord Jesus. The next time you stir your tea, or use a spoon for your desert remember the village of the selfless people and ask God to help you too to be His servant to His body the church and to the lost souls of the world.

Pat brought a letter from the king that had been sent to her grandmother in 1939 and signed by his majesty. How wonderful to personally have words from a king and signed by them it was certainly a treasure to have but we all have access to words written by a King if we would only avail ourselves of them. The Holy Bible is the inspired word of God and available to all and God is King of kings and Lord of lords, He is sovereign over all.

2 Timothy 3:16  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 

 The word from king George V1 would have been encouraging and uplifting and certainly worth saving but the word of God has an everlasting value, King Georg's words will eventually fade, be destroyed or lost but God's word is eternal and we will do well to immerse ourselves in the study of it in order that we may know how to live for God and how to serve Him.

I brought to the meeting a loaf of bread, which always to me is a reminder that Jesus is the Bread of life, it is He that sustains us and keeps us, we get all our spiritual nourishment from Him.

Glow in the Dark

After our lady’s weekend, I decided that they needed a well-earned break and so we had a wonderful afternoon relaxing over a cuppa and cake. 

We did do a word search for anyone who felt like taxing their brain. But as the weekend had been about from darkness to light I wanted to share a little something with the ladies. We have several colourful paperweights at home which are in a cabinet in our bedroom, they have been there a couple of years and never before I had noticed anything unusual until last week when I got up out of bed to see what was glowing.

Yes, it was one of the paperweights, I didn’t even know you could get glow in the dark ones so the next day I checked on the internet and yes there they were, so I hadn’t been seeing things and it wasn't reflecting something else.

I was so thrilled by this I decided to show people up at the Salvation Army hall and took it up in my bag after which it remained in there for a couple of days until I remembered it. I put it back in the cabinet and waited with baited breath for it to glow, but no it was no glow! I then realised it was because it had been in my bag in the dark; it must be in the light during the day in order to glow in the dark.

We cannot as children of God be a light for Him if we do not walk in His light. 

We must have Jesus in our lives and live as He would have us live, 

a light to everyone around.
