Are you safe?

We started our meeting off on Tuesday afternoon with a wonderful song, Safe in the Arms of Jesus. This of course gave the ladies a clue as to what all the objects were about that I had brought along.

They all had some kind of safety feature. We spent a few moments thinking of other things that had safety features, the ladies came up with quite a list, I wonder how many you can think of?

In these days we are bombarded with safety issues, from the playground to work, from the home to our church, all kinds of things have to be put in place for the safety of ourselves and the public. But what about our spiritual safety what do we have in place for that? King David said in his Psalm,
Psalm 119:Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. The word of God gives light, it directs our steps and keeps us from stumbling. You wouldn't walk down a dark pathway without a light and we as Christians shouldn't try and live in this dark world without the light of God's word.

Also Solomon told us in Proverbs, Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. If we are out in a storm we usually try and find somewhere to shelter, as Christians we have our shelter from all life's storms in Jesus, He is our strong tower where we can take refuge. We are always safe when we are in the arms of Jesus as the song said that we sang. Safe in the arms of Jesus,

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast,
There by His love o’ershaded, sweetly my soul shall rest.
Hark! ’tis the voice of angels, borne in a song to me.
Over the fields of glory, over the jasper sea.

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast
There by His love o’ershaded, sweetly my soul shall rest.

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe from corroding care,
Safe from the world’s temptations, sin cannot harm me there.
Free from the blight of sorrow, free from my doubts and fears;
Only a few more trials, only a few more tears!

Jesus, my heart’s dear Refuge, Jesus has died for me;
Firm on the Rock of Ages, ever my trust shall be.
Here let me wait with patience, wait till the night is over;
Wait till I see the morning break on the golden shore.

This is what God promised the Israelites when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. Deuteronomy 12:10 But when you cross over the Jordan and dwell in the land which the Lord your God is giving you to inherit, and He gives you rest from all your enemies round about, so that you dwell in safety. Rest from their enemies and safety, unfortunately they did not obey God or trust Him, but spend their time murmuring, complaining and not believing that God would deliver them from those dreadful giants, and so that generation passed away in the desert and did not receive God's rest or safety.

The prodigal son however came to his senses after leaving home and wasting his money and his life, he went home to seek forgivness but when he did come home the father had been waiting and he ran to meet him. God Himself came down to us. This isn't just a Christmas story, this is for everyday Jesus died for us on Calvary He took the punishment for our sins. The Father is waiting for any who has not as yet trusted in His gift of grace and mercy. As the father forgave and received the prodigal son and he was now safe at home, so are all who receive salvation, we are safe in Christ Jesus. If you don't know security and safety in Jesus seek Him now and He will make Himself known to you. You can be eternally safe and secure in Him.

If you know the Lord Jesus, don't be like the Israelites and take yourself out of the security and safety of God, you can't blame anyone else for your actions, your relationship with God is personal and we are only happy in Him when we trust and obey. When we walk in His light then we are safe. Keep safe, stay safe, always be safe, how? In Jesus. :)
