This
week has being really hot, fluctuating between 80° and 90° Fahrenheit so on
Tuesday at our Home League we all had a
bottle of water. We had a water related quiz, and we had stories from various
ladies about their favourite place where there was water. Tuesday was another
hot day but all this talk of water didn’t refresh us, if we wanted to be
refreshed we needed to drink it. I was reminded of the Samaritan woman at the
well when Jesus asked for a drink, John 4:7-26, a conversation ensued and Jesus told her He
could give her water and she would never be thirsty again. Why? Because He was
talking about the Holy Spirit, pure water of life that never runs out, never
runs dry, we can drink from it constantly, we don’t have to wait till we are
dry and thirsty, because the supply never ends.
In
the past in the natural we may have had problems where there has been droughts,
or our water supply has been cut-off. We are fortunate here in the West that it
doesn’t happen that often, we literally have it on tap, but things can and do go
wrong with it. Not
so with the water that Jesus promises, were once we were spiritually dead for
lack of spiritual life sustaining water, when we come to Jesus and are born
again we are never thirsty again. The supply is not going to dry up, it is not
going to be withheld, it is not going to be switched off. What! Never thirst
again? No, you will never be spiritually dry and thirsty again. Quench your
thirst in this life giving constant stream.
John7: 37 On the last day, that great day of
the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If
anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his
heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing
in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because
Jesus was not yet glorified.
The water
of life is the Holy Spirit. God within us.
